Former New England Revolution assistant coach Paul Mariner has returned to his old job at Plymouth Argyle.
Mariner has been sacked as Plymouth manager following their relegation to League One.
Mariner, who reverts to his former role as first team coach, only replaced Paul Sturrock as boss in December but won just seven of his 29 games in charge.
Plymouth chairman Sir Roy Gardener said: "Paul was fully aware when he took on first team responsibilities that the board would revue his position at the end of the season.
"We have decided to increase the possibility of success by bringing in an experienced manager."
Mariner said: "I am a realist and understand how and why the board came to the conclusion they have."
Plymouth will also not be taking up the option to sign permanently on-loan US international striker Kenny Cooper from 1860 Munich.
