Ex-Monchengladbach, Hertha Berlin striker Friend frustrated at stop-start LA Galaxy season

LA Galaxy striker Rob Friend has admitted to feeling frustrated at the nature of the MLS scheduling so far this season.

The Galaxy have played just five times so far this season, against three different opponents, and are about to experience their third bye in seven weekends.

Coming from Europe, former Heerenveen, Borussia Monchengladbach, Hertha Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt forward Friend admits it is a bit strange to have such a stop-start beginning to a campaign.

"It's frustrating, really frustrating," said the Canada international. "Really bizarre.

"It's frustrating as a player, especially as a new player trying to adjust to the team and trying to get in a rhythm with the guys and the team, and every other weekend is a bye."

And it wasn't just Friend who bemoaned the arrangement with Galaxy defenders AJ DeLaGarza and Omar Gonzalez echoing the forward's sentiments.

"When we think we're finally hitting a stride, we get hit with another bye week," DeLaGarza said.

While Gonzalez added: "It takes us out of our rhythm and allows maybe to lose a bit of fitness here and there because we're not getting ready for a game and not playing 90 minutes this week."
