Former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Bowyer believes Steve McClaren would be a perfect fit for the manager's job at St James' Park.
The Derby County boss has been heavily linked with the Toon role recently with it highly unlikely that John Carver will be kept at the helm next season.
McClaren has the Rams sitting sixth on the Championship table and if they fail to gain promotion to the top flight, Bowyer has urged the north east club to hire McClaren.
"I think he'd be perfect, because he's managed England and there is a lot of pressure in that job, and there is a lot of pressure to manage Newcastle so I think he'd be perfect for it," he told talkSPORT's Weekend Sports Breakfast.
"Derby don't look like they are going to go up, unless they go up through the play-offs."
