Former Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate believes Steve McClaren would be a great fit for the Aston Villa vacancy.
Southgate played under McClaren when the ex-England boss was at the helm at the Riverside Stadium and is of firm belief that the Villa role would be perfect for him.
"I will say Steve is as good as any of those in the frame for the job," he said.
"Whenever he is linked with a job, there always seems to be a negative reaction (because of his spell with England).
"Yet, if you look at what he has done in his career you begin to think, 'Why wouldn't he be in the frame?'."
