Ex-Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka regrets turning down Alaves job

Former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka regrets turning down the Alaves job.

Alaves came knocking 12 months ago.

Karanka told Marca: "Sergio Fernandez [Alaves' sporting director] tried in many ways. I thank him very much for the confidence he had in me, but for now the idea is to stay in England... unless something comes up that I cannot refuse.

"It was a shame because I know Josean Querejeta and I know that their project is spectacular. So I thank them one more time and say that I will be supporting them. I'm sure it will work out fine."
