Former Le Havre coach Eric Mombaerts is amazed by the progress of Manchester City's summer signing Riyad Mahrez.

Mahrez left Leicester City for Manchester City earlier this month and made his debut in defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Mombaerts, who worked with Mahrez at Le Havre, told the Mirror: “It was impossible to imagine that he could join the Premier League at the time, let alone one day cost this kind of figure.

“He has chosen to join the City project because of the charisma of his coach. He will have the right attitude in training.

"Pep (Guardiola) gives a space and freedom to his players, but in a strict framework. He demands a lot and I think that's necessary for Riyad.

“I think that now is the right time for him to move and face the really high demands of a club like Manchester City."
