Former Manchester United youth boss Eric Harrison is happy seeing Michael Appleton succeeding in coaching.
Harrison remembers 'Appy', who Albion hope will figure in Roy Hodgson's backroom staff once the new boss is appointed next week.
"Michael had great drive and was a good player,'' he recalled to the Birmingham Mail.
"What I like about him was that he listened, listened and listened. He absorbed everything.
"Michael's character was fantastic and very enthusiastic.
"I'm not surprised to see him carve out a career as a coach.
"He always had a hunger and thirst to know more about the game, the technical side of it and why certain things happen on the pitch.
"I know Michael hasn't got the job this time but had they taken a chance on him I think he would have done a brilliant job,
"You have to be a certain person and character to be a manager - I've seen it over the years - and Michael has it."
