Ex-Man Utd, Villa midfielder Djemba-Djemba denies bankruptcy claims

Former Manchester United and Aston Villa midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba has denied reports he is facing bankruptcy.

The former Cameroon international, currently playing for Qatar SC, was accused by France Football of owing £400,000 to the English tax man.

"Everything this newspaper said is a pack of lies," Djemba-Djemba told Camer Sport.

"It said that I owe 600,000 euros to the taxman. This is simply not possible because in England, tax is taken directly from your salary and that's how I was paid at both Manchester United and Aston Villa.

"Also, my salary at United was not 100,000 euros as suggested but rather130,000. If I owed the taxman from my time at United, it would have been taken out of my salary when I was at Burnley and I would not have been able to leave the country.

"How is it that today, five years later, they are saying I owe money from my time at United?"
