Mauro Boselli consulted former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron about English football before signing for Wigan. The Argentinian striker completed his move to the DW Stadium on Tuesday for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.
Veron endured a difficult three-year spell at Old Trafford and then Stamford Bridge, but his advice about playing in England convinced Boselli it was the right thing to do.
"He told me it was the best place in the world to play your football and that it would be the best place for me as a player."
The 25-year-old cannot now wait to get started with his new club.
"To be honest I wish we could start tomorrow," Boselli said.
"Everything Roberto said about the club and English football helped a great deal and made me realise that this was the right move for me.
"He wanted me here to play and enjoy my football in Wigan, which means a lot to me.
"In Argentina fans appreciate a player who plays with passion, and from what I've seen it's the same in England.
"Hopefully I can make the fans proud of the work I do on the pitch for them and for the team."
