Former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers striker Andy Cole has rejected an offer from non-league Bacup.
Cole, 37, called time on his career last month after cancelling his contract at Nottingham Forest.
But Bacup boss Brent Peters, who signed Cole's former Manchester United team-mate David May in 2004, says he pulled out all the stops to lure him to the North West Counties Premier Division outfit.
"I spoke at length to Andy's advisors but was told that, while he was flattered by our offer, he has no desire whatsoever to put his boots back on for anyone," said Peters.
"I am a great believer in having a go."
