Portland Timbers interim head coach Gavin Wilkinson has spoken highly of new assistant Sean McAuley.
The former Manchester United and St Johnstone defender has arrived from his post as Sheffield Wednesday academy coach to be a part of Wilkinson's coaching staff in Portland and has brought with him a wealth of experience.
"We've brought him in to strengthen the coaching staff and give him a role," Wilkinson said.
"So to ask for more of him is healthy for the club. He has a wealth of knowledge and he's a very, very valuable individual."
McAuley has been given a more hands-on role with the Timbers which Wilkinson says allows him to also concentrate on his previous job as technical director.
"It allows me to better balance the responsibilities," Wilkinson added.
"We've still got to look for players for next season in the transfer window. We've still got to look to improve the quality of the squad."
