Former Manchester United assistant Rene Meulensteen is unsure why the club offloaded Danny Welbeck to Arsenal on deadline day.
The Red Devils sold the 23-year old strike to the Gunners for £16million on the final day of the summer transfer window which is a decision that has the former right-hand man to Sir Alex Ferguson perplexed.
Meulensteen believes that England international Welbeck will provide the Gunners with quality creativity and suggests the transfer will prove to be a success for the north Londoners.
"I had him from when he was 8, 9 years of age and I think the best of Danny is yet to come," he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT.
"He is a very versatile player and I'm 100 per cent sure he will do very, very well for Arsenal.
"Danny is a perfect match for Arsenal. He is such a versatile player," "He is very good in short, creative, combination play, showing for the ball, passing and moving, picking up different positions.
"At the same time he has the pace and power to break away if they break from their own half."
Welbeck, who scored twice for England in their 2-0 Switzerland on Monday night, will make his Arsenal debut in Saturday's clash with reigning champions Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.
