Ex-Man Utd midfielder Blomqvist: I lost my Champions League medal!

Jesper Blomqvist has revealed that he momentarily lost his Champions League winners medal back in 1999.

The Swedish midfielder started in Manchester United's dramatic come-from-behind win over Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou in Barcelona before he was replaced by goalscorer Teddy Sheringham in the 67th minute.

Blomqvist, now 41, told the Daily Mail that he was close to completely losing the memento as the celebrations kicked off after the Red Devils scored twice in injury-time to overcome the German giants.

"I don't remember much about that night," said Blomqvist.

"It was high tension. Afterwards it was joy.

"I lost my medal on the pitch jumping around and I had to start looking for it. I was scared but I found it in the end."

Blomqvist joined United from Italian club Parma for £4.4million before knee injuries forced him out at Old Trafford. He subsequently moved to Everton in 2001.
