Ex-Man Utd defender Moran: Premier League just not that good...

Former Manchester United defender Kevin Moran has taken a swipe at the quality of the Premier League.

Moran says the performances of English clubs in Europe is proof the standard of the Premier League is declining.

He wrote in the Sunday World: "I say it is a trend and maybe now people will once and for all stop calling the Premier League 'the greatest league in the world'. Roy Keane hit the nail on the head a couple of weeks ago when he said the Premier League is the best brand in the world, but not the best football league.

"The English game is brilliantly marketed, there is no doubt about that, no doubt too that the bosses work hard selling their TV rights across the world.

"English clubs also visit the US, Canada and the Far East regularly to encourage these sales. Even though this is a World Cup year and some top players will be playing in Brazil in the first week of July, come the last week of July the Premier League's best sides will be off around the world preaching the gospel.

"Work takes me abroad a fair bit through the year, but I can always keep up with the Premier League, it's there on screens in every bar and hotel lobby. OK, the action might be at strange times of the morning or night, but it is there!"
