Ex-Man Utd defender Moran: Buying Robben would be end of Rooney

Former Manchester United defender Kevin Moran believes any move for Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben could be the end of Wayne Rooney.

Robben has been linked with United in recent days and Moran was reflecting on Holland coach Louis van Gaal's victory over Spain.

Moran wrote in the Sunday World: "Certainly Manchester United supporters will have been delighted at what their new manager produced on the tactical side in Friday's win. Louis van Gaal overwhelmed Spain in midfield, playing four Dutchmen there, and then got at the heart of their defence, which he obviously decided could be taken for pace.

"There have been suggestions that Arjen Robben is on Van Gaal's list of transfer targets for Manchester United. If so, Old Trafford would delight in a double-Dutch attack, but where would Wayne Rooney play then?

"One result of Friday night is that the Dutch look good to go a long way in the tournament, further delaying the day when Van Gaal finally gets his feet under the manager's desk in Carrington."
