Ex-Man Utd defender Albiston hails McNair match-saving header

Former Manchester United fullback Arthur Albiston was pleased for Paddy McNair over his winning debut against West Ham United.

Albiston was particularly impressed by the Ulsterman's late goalsaving header to keep the three points at home.

"All defenders have been there," Albiston told the Manchester Evening News. "It is the last thing you want when you are running back to goal and have to try and head the ball away to safety.

"You can't let it run on because there is usually someone running in behind ready for a tap-in at the far post.

"A lot of times you don't get it right and the ball ends up in the back of your own net. But McNair's clearance was top class.

"You have a split second to get everything right and for a tall lad he has got very good feet. He's not awkward and managed to adjust, twist his body and get proper contact on the ball.

"It was a fantastic saving header, perfectly executed.

"Saturday was a big test and he passed it. But there will be even bigger ones to come but, whatever happens, he's shown the manager what he can do.

"It is great to see another Academy lad get his chance."
