Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen is being linked with the job at Crystal Palace.
The Daily Mail says Meulensteen has emerged as a surprise candidate to become Crystal Palace boss after Championship club Middlesbrough hijacked their appointment of Aitor Karanka.
Meulensteen, 49, was not kept on as a member of Manchester United's backroom team following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in May and was then sacked after just 16 days in charge of Anzhi Makhachkala.
