Ex-Man Utd coach Meulensteen explains Fergie hairdryer myth

Former Manchester United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen says Sir Alex Ferguson's 'hairdryer' reputation was overblown.

Meulensteen left United weeks after Sir Alex's retirement.

He told BBC Sport: "The whole hairdryer thing is a nice description of what is happening but, whoever has been in front of the manager and got a telling off, he was just very direct and honest. If he wasn't happy with people's performances - regardless of who it was - bang! If you were getting it, you were getting it.

"But never ever have I been part of the dressing room and thought to myself: 'Hold on a minute, that's right out of order'. If that would happen for whatever reason, he would be the first one to apologise."
