Former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen was interviewed for a role with the Holland national team.
Voetbal International says Holland coach Daley Blind traveled to Manchester to interview Meulensteen and came away impressed.
Blind thought Meulensteen could be his training ground manager while he took on a more observer's role.
However, in the end, Blind added former Sunderland and PSV Eindhoven boss Dick Advocaat to his coaching staff.
The 68 year-old joined Blind for Oranje training for the first time last week.
