Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen says plastic pitches should be banned from European football.

Meulensteen was speaking before Uniteds's Champions League win at Young Boys on their 3G pitch.

The Dutchman said, “I am totally against artificial pitches and I don't think they should be allowed at this level in the Champions League or the Europa League.

“It's definitely an advantage for the home side but I think Man United will have too much for Young Boys tonight.

“In an away game in the Champions league against Young Boys, one of the weaker sides in the competition, United have to go out there to get the win.

“If they play well, and not worry about the surface, they will have too much for the home side."
