Former Australian national team goalkeeper Mark Bosnich is of the belief that Holger Osieck was made a scapegoat when he was sacked by Football Federation Australia.
The German met his demise on Saturday following Australia's 6-0 loss to France, their second of the like in their past two matches, adding to the 6-0 defeat in Brazil last month.
Ex-Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa custodian Bosnich admits that he feels sorry for Osieck, who recently guided the Socceroos into the 2014 World Cup finals, and suggests he may have been the victim of a number of underlying problems within the national team setup.
"A lot of us have seen this coming for quite some time," Bosnich told SEN.
"[But] maybe not to this extent.
"There's been a lot of whispers about and I think a lot of people have shied off saying things publically because people like myself haven't said it.
"But Holger Osieck got the sack on the weekend and I was one of the ones that thought that Holger deserved to go to the World Cup because he qualified us for the World Cup.
"But two results like that on the trot left the FFA with no other choice.
"I think he's only part of the problem.
"He's made a scapegoat, that's the manager's job, they know what they're getting themselves in for.
"But I think he's just a part of the problem."
