Former Manchester United captain Lou Macari has concerns about the appointment of Louis van Gaal.
Scotsman Macari accepts having won titles with Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Dutch master Van Gaal, 62 is rightly regarded as one of the game's great coaches.
But he said: "All United fans are delighted to finally know who the manager is, that he is in place now and can start on this tough job immediately.
"We can come up with these stats about his previous clubs and everything revolving around him as a person and boss. But I don't think that counts until he's here and until we get to see what happens with the football and which players we've got.
"When David Moyes came in here, everyone thought he would be the ideal replacement for Alex Ferguson who said wonderful things about him - and, of course, it didn't work out.
"So what you have done at previous clubs - and Van Gaal's CV is really impressive - doesn't mean when you pop up at Manchester United ten years later, this or that will happen.
"What the future holds for us is still to unravel. Yes, we're hoping it pays off and everything goes well for the new boss but we need to wait to see how the season kicks off.
"There's more than just one or two things to be sorted. The manager has to decide who he is bringing in, who he's keeping and who is going.
"And on top of that he's got to take his nation to the World Cup. So it's a race against time and he is going to need all that experience."
