Roy Keane believes Manchester United should have given David Moyes more time to prove himself as manager.
The 50-year old Scotsman was sacked by the Red Devils on Tuesday after just 10 months in the job which has seen the team fall to seventh on the Premier League table.
Former captain Keane admits Moyes performed below par at Old Trafford but does feel that he was not given a strong enough squad or enough patience after chief executive Ed Woodward didn't act early enough in the summer transfer window.
"He [Moyes] had a hard start when he took the job, the chief executive didn't get the deals done when David Moyes came in and he should have been given more time," Keane told ITV Sport.
"Some of the players should be ashamed of themselves, they let him down. I wouldn't say [Moyes] was Alex Ferguson's pick he put his name forward.
"To be seventh is disappointing, and he will take responsibility for that, but I don't think he's had that support he needed and he deserved more time."
