Former Manchester United captain Paul Ince says Louis van Gaal still has it all to prove.
Ince believes Van Gaal's record at United needs to be closely scrutinised rather than praised.
Former United and Liverpool midfielder Ince told the Daily Star Sunday: "Once David Moyes had lost his job, Van Gaal must have known he was going to United.
"So surely he had the time to pick the players he needed, to identify the centre-halves who would do a job for him.
"There has been a lot of money available for him to spend but some of his signings have been questionable.
"I'm not saying he is not a top manager because he has done it at big clubs throughout his career and can do it at Old Trafford as well.
"The thing is I'm still not sure what his best side is, what his best formation is. But he needs time."
