Ex-Man Utd boss Atkinson lined up for Sheffield Wednesday return

Former Manchester United boss Ron Atkinson is set to return Sheffield Wednesday.

The Sunday Mirror says Big Ron, 71, has been sounded out about making a dramatic Hillsborough return by the consortium who are favourites to complete a £17million takeover of the financially-crippled Owls.

Rotherham-based businessman Spencer Fearn is fronting the group which is being backed by property developer and former Peterborough owner Colin Hill, 54, whose £200million fortune ranks him as the 397th richest man in Britain.

Fearn, the 35-year-old founder of national training company Life Skills Solutions, revealed last night: "I had a long talk with Ron and he likes what we are doing.

"He told me on the phone that he would like to be involved and that, if our bid is a success, he will gladly talk to us about coming on board.

"Ron is a great bloke who is always associated with success at our club. He still loves Wednesday and is a big part of this club's history.

"It is an exciting development which we are sure all Wednesday fans will support, because it would be great for the club to have Ron here with us again. When the time is right we shall ask him."

Big Ron confirmed Fearn's invitation to him, and added: "Over the past few years five or six people have come to me with ideas like this, so we shall see what happens. Let's leave it at that because, at the moment, it's all hypothetical."
