New St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas has spoken highly of Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp following their time together at West Ham United in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Redknapp paid Manchester City £2.5million for Lomas in 1997 and made him captain as a 23-year old before trying to on-sell him down the track.
Lomas says he understands why the Spurs boss did what he did with some players back at Upton Park but takes n nothing away from the man who made you want to play for him.
"Harry's not been so well lately and I wish him all the best. As a manager he was fantastic for me," he told SunSport.
"He gained my respect because he saw a 23-year-old, slightly impetuous with a short fuse, and gave me the responsibility to go and be captain.
"Harry was unfairly tagged as being a wheeler and dealer.
"We fell out once when he tried to get rid of me. But we got over that.
"I still understood it was because he saw the chance to make a £1 million profit on me. Harry's fantastic at doing that.
"At teams like West Ham he had to have a high turnover of players. We weren't able to go out all the time and sign top players.
"He bought John Hartson for £3.5 million and sold him for £6 million. Eyal Berkovic, signed him for £2m and sold him for £5m.
"Harry knows how to treat players. That's why they play for him.
"He treats them like men - until they let him down. Then he'll come down on you like a ton of bricks.
"It's Harry's man-management qualities I'd like to take as I go on."
