Ex-Man City midfielder Summerbee tips Tevez to make positive return

Nicky Summerbee feels the returning Carlos Tevez can help guide Manchester City to this season's Premier League title.

The Argentine is set to return to City this week after going AWOL following a falling out with manager Roberto Mancini in late September after last being an unused sub in the ill-fated loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage.

Former City midfielder Summerbee admits it will be hard for the supporters to take to Tevez's impending return but is of the belief that his on-field ability will assist the club greatly as they chase a first top flight title since 1968.

"I don't think the City fans are going to give him the warmest of receptions," Summerbee told talkSPORT.

"But if you can get Tevez anywhere near the form he was in before all these problems, it is another quality striker who can get Man City to win the Premier League.

"You can't support Tevez at all. Everything he has done doesn't look good and not everyone is going to welcome him with open arms but when he gets on a football pitch he works his socks off and hopefully he can make things happen - if he gets on the pitch."
