Ex-Man City keeper Corrigan: I almost helped West Brom sign Hart

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Corrigan has revealed he almost wrecked his old club's deal for Joe Hart.

Corrigan recalled in the Daily Star Sunday: "Ironically, for a former City player, I once recommended Joe to West Brom when Bryan Robson was the manager and I was the club's goalkeeping coach.

"Bryan said they had heard of a young keeper at Shrewsbury, so I went to see him. That's when I first came across Joe.

"I came back with a report about a promising blond-haired kid. Robbo asked me what I thought and I said they were buying potential.

"He would have been 17 then, only a boy. I said to Bryan that, if it was me, I would put £250,000 down for him, with add-ons.

"But Robbo came back a couple of days later and said a deal for him was already signed and sealed.

"City had put £700,000 down with add-ons - and West Brom just couldn't compete with that level of fee for such a young player.

"And what a player he has proved to be."
