Ex-Man City defender Corluka relieved to make Spurs switch

Former Manchester City defender Vedran Corluka has admitted some relief over his move to Tottenham.

Corluka, 22, was shocked after City boss Mark Hughes accepted an £8.5million bid from Spurs and then told him to go for a medical.

The defender was then recalled as Hughes pulled the plug on the deal, only for the transfer to go through at the 11th hour on Monday.

Corluka said: "It was a big relief because lots of things happened in the last two or three weeks.

"First the club decided to sell me but then they stopped the transfer.

"I didn't expect that City would let me go. But they did and to a good club, a big club so I am happy."

On the day Corluka left Manchester, City signed Robinho for a British record £32.5m as new owners Abu Dhabi United Group splashed their cash.

Yet Corluka said: "Everything is not just money.

"Tottenham is a great team and we have the squad to get into the Champions League.

"My chances of getting there are the same as if I had stayed at City."
