Former Manchester City communications chief Paul Tyrrell has joined Joey Barton's team.

The Daily Mail says Newcastle midfielder Barton has made one of the more sensible decisions of his damaged career by employing ex-Man City communications chief Tyrrell as PR adviser.

Tyrrell has retained a good relationship with Barton since his turbulent time at City, whom Newcastle play next Saturday.
