Former Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce is in talks over the India U17 job.
The Sun says he is set for a surprise return to management after being shortlisted by the Indian Football Association to become their Under-17s coach.
The 54-year-old has previously worked within a youth set up as England Under-21 boss which led to him being caretaker manager of the national side in 2012.
Following his memorable 24-year playing career, Pearce has also managed Manchester City, Great Britain's Olympic football team and most recently Nottingham Forest.
It is understood, according to The Times of India, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) are looking at experienced candidates, rather than high-profile names.
