Former Manchester City and Fulham boss Mark Hughes is resisting interest from Hamburg.

The People says the Manchester United legend knows that he might have to use a job on the continent as a stepping stone to a Premier League return - but Hamburg won't be it.

Sparky does not want to take over a club struggling for cash and results and further dent a reputation bruised by his exits from City and Fulham.

Hughes has an army of admirers in Germany after a spell during his playing career at Bayern Munich, and Hamburg sporting director Frank Arnesen, formerly of Chelsea and Spurs, knows all about his capabilities. But Welshman Hughes is prepared to play a waiting game.
