Former Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is in the frame for the Sheffield United job.
The Daily Mail says the Swede, 65, who is also in contention for the Poland national manager's role, is coaching Guangzhou R&F in China.
He is understood to be favoured by advisers of Sheffield United's wealthy Saudi co-owner Prince Abdullah.
Eriksson was Leicester manager in the 2010-11 season, but left the club by mutual consent months after finishing 10th in the Championship.
