Ex-Man City assistant Backe named as All-Star coach for Man Utd game

New York Red Bulls boss Hans Backe has been appointed as the coach for the 2011 MLS All-star team.

The former Notts County manager will oversee the best MLS players as they take on English champions Manchester United at Red Bull Arena on July 27.

Backe said he was delighted to be named as the All-Stars coach but admitted that he was now in danger of losing his good record against United after helping Manchester City to two victories over the Red Devils when he was assistant to Sven-Goran Eriksson in the 2008/09 Premier League season.

"It's an honor, definitely an honor," Backe said. "I was surprised, and at the same time smiling and happy.

"The problem now is that I don't want to risk my stats against Man U. I beat them twice when Eriksson and I were the same year with Man. City. It was the first time in 34 years that City had a double win against Man U in the same year.

"I want to win this game," Backe added. "I don't want to lose against Man U."
