Ex-Malaga, Coventry keeper Gonzalez appointed as NYRB goalkeeping coach

New York Red Bull have announced the appointment of Rafael Gonzalez as their new goalkeeping coach.

The 42-year old was most recently working with Spanish side Malaga, for whom he played between 1997 and 2003, following a lengthy spell as Aston Villa's keeping coach.

"Rafa is a very experienced professional, with over two decades in soccer both as a player and a goalkeeper coach. We think he is a very strong addition to our coaching staff," Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh said.

"His knowledge in working at the highest levels of soccer will be beneficial in assisting the development of our three young goalkeepers."

During his playing career, Gonzalez appeared for the likes of Aviles, Oviedo, Sporting Gijon and Coventry City.
