Jermaine Pennant has identified the reasons he feels Liverpool cut him back in 2009.
The winger, now 34, was not offered a new contract by Rafa Benitez once he returned from a loan at Portsmouth and his deal expired in the summer of that year.
Pennant played 80 times under Benitez but never really progressed under the Spaniard, which is why he was disposed of.
“I wish a manager had been able to guide me but when you're that age, you don't take it on board," Pennant, who recently joined League One club Bury, recalled to the Daily Mail.
“You're like 'Yeah, whatever. I know it all already'.
“Rafa wasn't a player's manager where he would sit you down and ask what's the matter.
“I made a few mistakes and probably didn't have the best attitude. I just thought ability would get me places.
“Maybe I'll made a good coach or an assistant because I can talk to the younger lads and help them out in years to come."
