Emile Heskey is set to make his A-League debut for Newcastle Jets in this weekend's season opener.
The 34-year old former England and Liverpool striker joined the Jets recently after departing Aston Villa at the end of the last Premier League campaign and is expected to get some game time when the Jets host Adelaide United at the Hunter Stadium.
Heskey has been keeping fit with Wigan Athletic's U21 squad and although he admits he is not up to scratch just yet, he will soon be at his peak to provide for his new club.
"We are taking it day-by-day in training," he said. "We are just building up for that (season opener).
"I feel OK. Obviously looking at some of the other fitness (levels), I'm a bit behind them but it won't take long to get back up to speed."
And when asked if he would be changing his game style at all, Heskey said: "No, because that's the way I play, that's the way I've grown up playing.
"I don't fancy changing anything. I managed to go to two World Cup and two European Championships doing the same thing so why change now."
