Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor has welcomed their deal for Southampton attacker Sadio Mane.

The Senegal forward completed a £30m move to Anfield from Southampton earlier this week.

Mellor told Liverpool's website: "I think it's an exciting signing.

"He's a player who is very capable in the final third and we've seen glimpses of him producing [that] at Southampton.

"You just get the feeling, with him arriving at Liverpool with somebody like Jürgen Klopp, who really can get the best out of players, it's quite exciting to think of his potential.

"We've seen glimpses of him but there's potential to see a little bit more consistency because in the final third he can really be the difference.

"You look at Mane and you think he's certainly going to be a goal threat."
