Former Liverpool star Mark Walters believes pressure from Jamaica forced England coach Roy Hodgson to select Raheem Sterling.
Jamaica have confirmed their interest in capping the teen.
"There's no doubt he's been one of Liverpool's bright sparks," Walters told talkSPORT. "There could be an undercurrent with his call-up though.
"Jamaica are very hot on him at the moment and maybe that's one of the reasons why he's been called up a little bit early.
"Jamaica want him to play for them so maybe England just want to get him tied up so he's ineligible for anyone else."
