Former Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Didi Hamann has questioned the attitude of England players.
Hamann has slammed the money going to young players in England.
"How can somebody who is 18 or 19 and has done nothing in the game sign a long-term contract that guarantees him £12.5m?" said Hamann.
"That is the same if he plays, gets injured, or doesn't perform. Giving an 18-year-old £50,000 a week guaranteed for five years is irresponsible. It can't be right and the reason why some players lose their edge.
"They are sorted for life and they are only human, so they think they have it made. Then before you know it, they have taken their foot off the gas for six months and somebody else has come through and taken their place.
"Then they are finished. They end up in the Championship or even lower when they could have been England players playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona.
"There is a structure in place in English football at the moment which is set up to create complacency."
