Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has backed the push for Jack Wilshere to be named Arsenal captain.
Collymore wrote in the People: "Arsene Wenger will be doing himself a massive favour if he hands the captain's armband to Jack Wilshere next season.
"Some players are born to be captains. Arsenal have had Tony Adams in the past and I remember Gareth Southgate being the same way in my own career.
"It is understood Wenger is having a rethink over his own skipper next year, with Thomas Vermaelen suffering a poor season along with the rest of Arsenal's back four.
"And a decision to make Wilshere captain so early in his career is one I do not think he would regret.
"Even at the age of 21, I believe he can handle the pressure and responsibility. I think he wants to be the leader of this Emirates team."
