Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believes that Everton are favourites heading into the upcoming Merseyside derby.

As Liverpool prepare for arguably their biggest game of the season when they travel to Goodison Park to square off against fierce rivals Everton on Sunday and the match will be seen as a must-win for under-pressure manager Brendan Rodgers.

However with Everton in fine form, winning the clash will be anything but a straightforward task for Liverpool and former Reds defender Carragher believes that the Toffees head into the game as favourites against his out-of-sorts former side.

"The Evertonians are getting very confident and maybe rightly so because of the form Liverpool have been in," Carragher said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football .

"I think for Everton tonight to go and get that big win and go into it ahead of Liverpool, they'll be favourites going into it.

"With the form both sides are on, they're at home as well and then they will be looking to create a gap of four or five points if they could win it.

"Roberto Martinez has been talking about the top four and I think that will be very difficult but it certainly pushes them very close if they can get results in the next two games."
