Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp says Manchester City should move for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool are favourites to sign the Dutchman.

But Redknapp says: "I can't take them seriously until they sort out their defence, he said. 'John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi is not a partnership to win the Premier League."

He believes that City could win the title - but only if they splash more cash.

"The only way Manchester City win the league is if they buy Virgil van Dijk. City should pay £60m for Van Dijk – today. Unless they keep Vincent Kompany fit, for all their attacking genius, I can't see their defence holding out."
