Former Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani is pleased with his move to Fiorentina.

Aquilani made the switch last week.

"Why did I choose Fiorentina? Because they showed that they wanted me, it's an interesting journey and I can do very well here," he said.

Aquilani had already been linked with a Viola switch last summer, but opted for AC Milan instead.

"I'd like to clarify that I had given the all-clear to come to Florence, but not on loan. I wanted some sense of certainty that I could stay on for another year.

"It's not true that I chose Milan and dumped Fiorentina, but rather that the clubs couldn't agree on terms. This story of me turning down Fiorentina was a media invention.

"Nor is it true that I was an outcast at Liverpool. I had a good rapport with everyone there."
