Former Liverpool and Manchester City goalkeeper David James says Newcastle United should be shooting for higher than a top ten finish.
James still considers Newcastle a big club.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "You know, a lot of Liverpool fans won't have been alive the last time they won the league. How many Newcastle fans were alive when they last won something domestically?
"It's not as if Newcastle have been constantly in the top flight, and you could say 'Well, we've had top-flight football for 50 years'. They haven't, they've been up and down, up and down.
"You just think when is it going to happen, when is it going to turn into success?
"You look at the third biggest (club) stadium in the country and they haven't won anything for what is it now? Fifty, nearly 60 years?
"That's a long time, and you've got that many loyal fans.
