Former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry says Gerard Houllier can bring success to Aston Villa.
Houllier, who took the reins at Villa Park three months ago, has been under fire by fans following the club's awful start to the season.
But Parry told the Sunday Mirror: "Gerard is a man I've got enormous respect for.
"You would hope fans would take a long or medium-term view. He did a great job at Liverpool. But it's all about instant success these days - and delivering short-term."
Parry, who this week spoke at a seminar on sporting integrity organised by Leeds-based firm FrontRow Legal, remembers a time when Houllier was not always appreciated by the Anfield crowd.
"Gerard turned things round at Liverpool," he said. "Not just in terms of winning trophies, but in transforming attitudes within the dressing room and modernising.
"He fought a few battles and played a great role in developing players like Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen in their formative years.
"His legacy for the club is very strong.
"And yet he was vilified - wrongly in my view - by many Liverpool fans. In his final season he did get us into the Champions League. Well, that would be quite a good outcome for the club this season."
