Former Leicester City assistant boss Michael Appleton believes Manchester United are aiming to make a striker signing.

Appleton, a former United midfielder, is convinced manager Jose Mourinho is seeking a new goalscorer.

“It seems they are looking for a striker at this moment in time," Appleton said on Sky Sports.

“I've heard him talking about them needing more firepower.

“You look at the disappointment they had towards the end of the season in the FA Cup.

“Some of the young players that have come in, the likes of (Marcus) Rashford, they've got a year more experience.

“I think it will be a striker and I think that will be the only signing they make."
