Former Leeds United and England boss Howard Wilkinson says the chances of another player like Arsenal winger The Walcott coming through the system are virtually nil.
Former Soho Square technical director Wilkinson is furious with the game's chiefs for deciding to put on hold a national football centre at Burton.
Wilko believes the decision will stop young players like Theo Walcott coming through the ranks - and hamper the national team's chances of qualifying for future World Cups.
He said: "If you qualify for a World Cup everything in the garden's rosy. Well, it might be rosy this year but we should look beyond this year and look after the long-term welfare.
"You do feel you're p***ing in the wind. And if you make too much noise all the time they stop listening.
"We used to export our expertise. We had people going abroad who were wanted abroad. Then we took our eye off the ball, we became complacent, politics started to take over and, at this moment at the FA, we do not have one formal committee whose sole occupation is to deal with either youth development or coach education.
"You tell me what messages that sends to the people out there who are aspiring young managers and coaches."
