Marco Di Vaio admits he is looking forward to a new challenge in his already lengthy football career.

The 35-year old Italian striker was unveiled on Monday as the Montreal Impact’s first Designated Player signing, joining from Bologna, and he is ready for something brand new after an entire career spent in Europe.

“This is an exciting time for me and my family,” Di Vaio said.

“As difficult as it was for me to leave Bologna, I felt it was time to move and to try something new.”

And Di Vaio added that it was not just the idea of linking up with fellow Italians Bernardo Corradi and Matteo Ferrari that lured him to Montreal.

“It’s nice that they’re here, but it wouldn’t have been a different decision if they weren’t,” Di Vaio added.

“From the day we met and the importance they showed in me and with my desire for a new challenge, I felt right about the decision.”
