Swiss midfielder Davide Chiumiento is set to make his first appearance for USSF Division 2 club Vancouver Whitecaps.

The 25-year old former Juventus and Lucerne winger will play for the Whitecaps reserves this week before making his first team debut against the Portland Timbers on October 2.

Whitecaps coach Teitur Thordarson welcomed the chance to see Chiumiento in action as well as giving game time to some players returning from injury.

"It will be nice to see players like Davide on the field," said Thordarson. "It will be a good opportunity for him to get 30 to 45 minutes, and to give Cody [Arnoux], Jonathan [McDonald] and Randy [Edwini-Bonsu] minutes to get game fitness.

"If it goes extremely well then we might think about it [playing him on Friday against Montreal Impact]but it might be a little too early."
